Stuart’s childhood was spent in the service of serial-renovator parents. His father worked for DuPont and the family was transferred several times during Stuart’s childhood. Each time they moved, the Hoffmanns would typically buy an old home and renovate it themselves with Stuart’s help. The oldest was a house in Camden, SC, built around 1850.
After considering a career in architecture, Stuart chose to pursue electrical engineering. He graduated from NC State in 1982 and embarked on his first career.
Engineering took Stuart from DuPont to Allied Data Communications Group and finally to Microsoft, where he spent 9 years as a Systems Engineer focusing on pre-sales messaging.
After leaving Microsoft, this once reluctant renovator returned to the family hobby and founded The Hoffmann Company in 2005. His only solo renovation prior to becoming a builder was 20 years earlier when he bought and personally renovated a 1910 row house in Wilmington, DE. |
